Skin Fasting

Starting a brand new year may mean many things to you. It’s almost like you want to get everything right! Skin fasting can be as easy as 123…. and can be quite beneficial if you are considering trying new skincare products or a new skincare routine. As far as skincare goes, I am a minimalist. In the morning and evening, I have a simple three-step routine. My goal this year was to switch up my routine and try new products, so I decided to cleanse my skin early this year.

First and Second day. I decided on a stomach purge to detox my body of all the wrong this I ate over the holiday. I washed my face with water and had to fight myself not to use a moisturizer as my face felt extremely try.

Day three and four was no better. My face felt dry as hell and my lips were chapped.  I started drinking lots of water and by the fourth day my face was not as dry. To my surprise I got no pimples which meant I needed to switch out a product or change my skincare routine.

Day five and six, Throughout the day, I wash my face with just water. While my skin seemed to be purging itself, the entire week felt more like a test of my willpower to not reach for a face scrub or moisturizer. Also, it was a reminder to drink water, a basic requirement for human survival that we often overlook.

If you are in quarantine I would advice you to take this time for skin fasting. Abstaining from products will give your skin a break to rebalance on its own.
